We'll come to Vienna, Video High 8, 4:3, 8 Min., color, 1992

Videoimages of tourists in and around the Stephansdome are contrasted with statements of Austrian journalists and politicians commenting on Austria‘s migration politics. Which groups of “foreigners” are welcome in Austria, which ones are only accepted or even rejected? The contrast between image and sound shows that mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion have an economic and political logic. This logic is also made explicit by the languages that can be chosen in the Dome‘s Tourist-Info-Phone—information is offered only in english, german, frensh and italian.

This video resulted from a cooperation with Gerhard Frommel and Paola, and was realized with the participation of Florian Schmeiser, Gerhard Paul, Richard Ferkl und Merab Ninidze
